Ed Alton’s music has established a significant presence in primetime television by providing the scores for 25 different television series. His 12 main title themes are well-known for the identities they created for their respective series, and have appeared on numerous TV Main Title Theme compilations. Ed’s music has consistently remained individual and contemporary, spanning a diverse range of television series, films and musical theater productions. He has been recognized by his peers with an Emmy nomination (’98 “The Closer” Music & Lyrics, performed by Bernadette Peters) and by ASCAP with five consecutive “Top TV Series Composer” awards (“Suddenly Susan” and “The Single Guy”). Ed’s career is a product of passion and commitment to craft and musical and artistic sensibilities.
Originally from Connecticut, Ed graduated from The Hartt School of Music where he studied composition with Arnold Franchetti. His background as a performer is diverse and includes years of performances on motion picture soundtracks, records, orchestral concerts, and ethnic ensembles that have all added to his musical personality. Ed’s performing eventually segued into a successful career scoring television.
From his electronic scores for the recent drama “Kevin Hill,” to his eclectic jazz score for Rob Reiner’s “Everyday Life,” to his rock scores for “Suddenly Susan” and “Run of the House,” to his tango/ethnic score for the feature “A Wake in Providence,” Ed’s music has enhanced the personality of each series he’s worked on. Also right at home on the set, Ed has worked with a veritable “who’s who” of actors in producing filmed musical production numbers.
In addition to music, Ed’s passion for drawing has made him an accomplished artist. Frequent trips to Europe bring him to the South of France where inspiration abounds. His original pen and ink works are currently in many private collections. Television Series
